On December 2, 2019, the Ontario government introduced important new legislation to protect farmers, livestock and our food supply chain with Bill 156 – Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act, 2019. Some special interest groups have been vocal opponents to Bill 156, suggesting the legislation will somehow hide how Ontario farm families produce food for Ontarians. This is not the case. Ontario farmers follow strict codes of conduct to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all farm animals.
OFA is asking you to show your support for Bill 156 and its intent to protect farms, our families and the safety of our food chain by addressing the ongoing threat of unwanted trespassing and activists who think it is their right to disrupt our farms and the safety of our food chain. Together, we appreciate the support from the provincial government for taking a strong stance to protect our farms and food safety, and introduce more significant consequences for illegal activist activities.
