Automatic annual tax on Canadian spirits

The spirits industry in Canada – fueled by farming – is facing increasing and crippling federal taxes. Left unchecked, these taxes could see the end of spirits production in Canada, a move that would severely impact the agricultural sector.  Add your voice to a call for Members of Parliament (MP) to repeal the new excise escalator tax on beer, wine and spirits.

Canadian agriculture supports the beverage alcohol industry with high-quality distilling grains, wine grapes, cider apples and more. Canadian distillers proudly use locally-grown grains in their spirits. But Canada’s spirits industry is facing escalating federal taxes that could impact the viability and growth of this industry. Spirits Canada has developed a campaign to draw attention to these escalating taxes and express their concerns with federal politicians.

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is supporting Spirits Canada campaign – Not on My Tab – to get the attention of MPs about the crippling effect the new automatic excise tax is having on Canada’s spirits industry and our competitiveness with US distillers. OFA knows our distilling industry represents an important market for many of our members.

Canadians pay some of the highest alcohol taxes in the world. The federal government’s new excise escalator tax is hidden from consumers and increases automatically every April 1st. The new tax will harm Canadian distillers and farmers.

Use the form below to send a letter to your MP to let them know that you support the Not on My Tab campaign by Spirits Canada to repeal the automatic annual excise escalator tax on Canadian beer, wine and spirits.
